Summer greetings to all club members!
We are planning our upcoming 4th of July Fun-Fly Event, and it's getting exciting. Details are as follows:
July 4th, 2015, at the Crosswinds flying field.
From 9:00 am to noon the field will be used for pilot's competition flights. Please note -- the field will be CLOSED to all open flying at that time; competition only -- The field will be re-opened for the usual flying at noon.
There will be a $10 entry fee per pilot to participate in the event. Each pilot may use ONLY one plane for ALL the competition events.
For all pilots who plan to compete, please be present at the field at 9:00 am for a pilot's briefing. The events planned are expected to be appropriate for all skill levels, so even if you've only just flown solo recently, don't hesitate to come out and participate! We expect the pilot competition events to be finished by noon, at which time the club will provide a sub sandwich lunch for all present. Prizes and awards will be presented later in the evening. This should be lots of fun, so don't miss it!
Once lunch is concluded, we plan to break for the afternoon and reconvene back at the field around 5:00 pm for a Bring Your Own Food BBQ/Picnic, presentation of the awards and prizes from the pilot's competitions (must be present to accept), fireworks viewing, flying before dark, and night flights after dark. Plan to bring food for you and your family, and if you want to bring something to share, there will be a "community table" for all.
Don't forget: food and all necessary eating utensils, water, sunglasses, sunscreen, jackets and flashlights for the evening, chairs and/or tables, fun activities for your kids... and of course, airplanes!!
There will be a BBQ grill at the field for open use (including utensils for the grill).
It is also looking like the shade structure is doubtful to be built in time for this event, so please bring a pop-up if you own one. (Remember the wind and bring adequate weights to tie down the pop-up. Buckets filled with sand from the sandbox at the field, tie straps, stakes/hammers, and pre-filled sandbags are all options, just to name a few.)
This should be a fantastic event and a chance for the club and all families to get together for the holiday! Invite friends, bring planes, enjoy good food and good fellowship while celebrating our country's independence! Hope to see you there!
